ROUSH CleanTech Company Overview
ROUSH CleanTech, headquartered in Plymouth Township, Mich., was launched in 2010 by automotive legend Jack Roush in direct response to a demand from commercial and public fleets for a viable, inexpensive, safe, and reliable alternative fuel option. Recognizing the broad impact America’s fleet vehicles have on our nation’s carbon footprint, the leaders at ROUSH put their 35 years of automotive heritage to work in creating alternative fuel vehicle applications under the name ROUSH CleanTech. Currently, ROUSH CleanTech designs, engineers, manufactures, assembles, and installs dedicated liquid propane autogas fuel systems for a variety of light- and medium-duty Ford vehicles, including the F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 truck series, and the E-150, E-250, E-350, and E-450 cutaway van series.
ROUSH CleanTech Executive Summary
ROUSH CleanTech aims to help usher in an era of widely adopted clean and responsible alternative-fuel-powered vehicles, with a dedication to developing products that achieve a cleaner emissions profile, a positive return on their customers’ investment, and an unsurpassed ownership experience.
With initial funding from the Propane Education & Research Council, ROUSH CleanTech has worked for more than four years to develop liquid propane autogas fuel systems for a variety of light- and medium-duty Ford trucks and vans. Customers experience zero compromise in the areas of horsepower, torque, and towing when compared to their gasoline-powered equivalents — a significant development in the previous generation of propane fuel systems.
Additionally, ROUSH CleanTech’s propane-autogas-powered vehicles are helping the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 24 percent, creating up to 20 percent less nitrogen oxide, up to 60 percent less carbon monoxide, and fewer particulate emissions when compared to vehicles fueled by gasoline. Domestically produced propane autogas is non-toxic, safe, and cost effective. A national infrastructure is already in place with thousands of refueling stations and 56,000 miles of pipeline.
Currently, ROUSH CleanTech propane-autogas-powered vehicles can be found in almost every state in the nation, driven by major public and private fleets, including SuperShuttle, ThyssenKrupp Elevators, Frito Lay, and King County, Washington’s Department of Transportation.
Customers report savings both in fuel and maintenance costs. Propane autogas is 30 to 40 percent less expensive than gasoline. In addition, many government agencies and municipalities offer grants to help companies switch to an alternative fuel such as propane autogas. There are also federal tax credits that cover up to 30 percent of the incremental cost of installing propane fueling infrastructure ($30,000 maximum) and a .50-cent fuel credit per gallon of propane consumed. See the Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuel and Advanced Vehicles Data Center for more details at www.afdc.energy.gov. The cost of adding fueling infrastructure for propane autogas is inexpensive, and many propane distributors across the country will install infrastructure for no cost, in return for a fueling contract with a fleet.
All ROUSH CleanTech vehicles are certified at launch by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the more rigorous California Air Resources Board (CARB). ROUSH CleanTech systems are in compliance with all NHTSA, FMVSS, and NFPA safety regulations.
With more than 15 million vehicles worldwide, propane is the third most common engine fuel behind gasoline and diesel. Worldwide use of propane has shown that, based on per capita use, it has one of the best safety records of any fuel — conventional or alternative. Propane tanks are 20 times more puncture resistant than conventional fuel tanks. In addition, because it is released as a gas, propane does not spill, pool, or leave residue.
ROUSH CleanTech’s zero compromise alternative fuel solution is revolutionizing the way people view alternative fuel modes of transportation — reducing emissions and operating costs without sacrificing the ownership experience.
