The following information was provided by Cummins Westport Inc.

Cummins Westport Inc. is a 50:50 joint venture between Cummins Inc. and Westport Innovations Inc. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, with offices worldwide, Cummins Westport is a leading supplier of high-performance, six-cylinder natural gas engines for commercial transportation applications such as medium- and heavy-duty truck, transit and school bus, refuse haulers, mixers, and street sweepers. Cummins Westport’s six to nine liter engines with 195 to 320 hp are manufactured by Cummins, with warranty, service, and aftermarket support provided by the Global Cummins distributor and dealer network. There are over 30,000 Cummins Westport engines in service worldwide.

Cummins Westport Heavy-Duty Natural Gas Engines
Cummins Westport spark-ignited, dedicated natural gas engines can operate on compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), or biomethane which meet Cummins published fuel specifications.  Natural gas or methane, is a clean, abundant, and safe form of energy.  With biomethane being produced from landfill gas, food, or animal wastes, an abundant supply of clean, renewable energy is also available.

Cummins Westport engines are designed to meet the most stringent emissions regulations and provide dependable service and power. Certified with catalyst, they meet or exceed the toughest U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), California Air Resources Board (CARB), and EURO emissions standards.

Why Cummins Westport?
Starting in 1991 with the production of its first natural gas heavy-duty engine, Cummins has developed clean, leading-edge natural gas engine technology, introducing its engines into the market in advance of regulated emissions standards.

Since its inception in 2001, Cummins Westport has emerged as the leading natural gas engine supplier to bus and truck builders worldwide. Cummins Westport engines are 100% dedicated natural gas, built in the same factories as Cummins diesel engines and sold directly to leading bus and truck manufacturers worldwide.

Products
In North America, Cummins Westport offers the ISL G - an 8.9 liter engine with 250-320 hp and 1,000 lb-ft peak torque. The ISL G is well suited for work truck applications such as refuse, vocational and dump trucks, medium- and heavy-duty truck and tractor applications, and mixers.  The ISL G is offered as a factory option from leading truck manufacturers.

ISL G Features:

  • Cummins Cooled EGR—lowers in cylinder temperature and reduces oxygen concentration
  • Stoichiometric Cooled Exhaust Gas Combustion (SEGR)— The use of cooled EGR in the combustion process in combination with Stoichiometric Combustion improves power and fuel efficiency, and creates an oxygen free exhaust allowing for the use of a Three-Way Catalyst
  • New Electronic Control Module—provides full monitoring and control of engine sensors, fuel system and ignition system
  • Three-Way Catalyst—simple, maintenance-free device. Highly effective hydrocarbon, CO, and NOx control with no exhaust system related maintenance costs
  • Low installed weight—highest power to weight ratio in its class
  • Improved clutch engagement torque
  • Operates on LNG, CNG, or Biomethane
  • Meets EPA and CARB 2010 and Euro EEV emission standards
  • Since 2007, more than 10,000 ISL Gs have been delivered

The ISL G shares over 80% of its parts with the ISL diesel – engine block, crankshaft, connecting rods, accessory drives, bearings, etc. This provides proven reliability and durability, ensures better parts availability, and provides for ease of installation.  Scheduled maintenance intervals and the lifetime to rebuild are similar to diesel.

Cummins Westport engines provide customers with quiet, clean, and reliable power, in addition to lower overall fuel costs and simple aftertreatment.  More and more businesses are seeing the value of low emission, high performing natural gas engines—for the environment and for their bottom line.
