Transport Canada Recall #2019533
Manufacturer Recall Number N192261050
Units Affected   37,378
Category Light Truck & Van, SUV

Recall Details
Issue: On certain vehicles, there may be an error in the electronic-brake control module software. This could cause the driveline-protection system to activate when a wheel-speed sensor fails. If this happens, the brakes could apply and cause the vehicle to pull to one side. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with four-wheel drive, a 5.3-L engine, and a 3.08 ratio rear axle. The problem can only occur when the vehicle is in four-wheel drive or automatic mode, and travelling at a speed between 66 and 97 km/h (41 and 60 mph). A wheel-speed sensor failure will cause the electronic stability control (ESC) and anti-lock braking system (ABS) warning lights to turn on, and a "Service StabiliTrak" message to display. Safety Risk: A vehicle that suddenly pulls to one side could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the electronic-brake control module software. General Motors advises that using two-wheel-drive mode can eliminate the risk until the recall repair is completed.

Recall Details
Issue: On certain vehicles, the flexible coupling between the transmission and driveshaft may crack over time. If this happens, you may notice vibrations and noise from under the vehicle. If you continue driving with this problem, the driveshaft could separate, resulting in a loss of power to the wheels. If the driveshaft separates, and the parking brake is not used when parked, the vehicle could move suddenly. A driveshaft that separates can also cause damage to nearby components, including brake and fuel lines. Note: Cutaway chassis models with a 156" or 178" wheelbase are not involved in this recall. Safety Risk: A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, unintended vehicle movement could increase the risk of injury and/or a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify vehicle owners by mail. A final repair is being developed. In the interim, the driveshaft flexible coupling must be replaced every 64,000 km until the final repair is available. If your vehicle has less than 64,000 km, there is no action needed at this time. If your vehicle has 64,000 km or more, Ford will instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the driveshaft flexible coupling.

Issue: On certain trucks, a connection on the battery positive terminal could come loose. This can result in a loss of instrument panel displays, braking or steering assist, or cause the engine to stall. This issue could also create a high-resistance connection. Safety Risk: A loss of engine power and/or a loss of power to electrical systems could increase the risk of a crash. A high-resistance connection could create a fire risk. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to inspect the connection of the positive battery cable. It will be cleaned and tightened as necessary.

Issue: On certain trucks, there may be a problem with the software that controls the daytime running lights (DRLs). If the DRLs are on, and the light switch is moved to the "ON" (low beam) position, the DRLs do not lower to parking light brightness. Canadian regulations require that these lights switch back to parking lamp brightness when the headlights are turned on. Safety Risk: Lights that are too bright could cause glare for oncoming drivers. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to update the body control module (BCM) software.

Issue: On certain trucks, the lug nuts on the rear-outer wheels were not properly tightened during assembly. This could cause the nuts to loosen or fall off, and could result in a wheel separating from the vehicle. Safety Risk: A wheel separation could increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that detaches from a vehicle could create a hazard for other drivers and nearby people. Corrective Actions: Isuzu will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to inspect the rear-outer wheel lug nuts and tighten them or install new ones, as necessary.

Issue: On certain trucks equipped with an automatic transmission, when the engine RPM increases for the stationary power take off (PTO), it can overcome the parking brake if the transmission is in drive or reverse gear. As a result, the truck may move suddenly. Safety Risk: Sudden and unexpected movement of the truck could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to update the engine control module software to enable the PTO neutral interlock.
