Units Affected 18,401
Category Light Truck & Van

Recall Details
Issue: Certain trucks that were repaired under recall 2019-630 (GM #N192268090) received a software update that has an error. As a result, a second repair is required. The software error can cause the following symptoms: if the truck is started remotely using the Onstar mobile app or if an operator enters the truck and waits five or more minutes before starting it, the electronic brake assist could be disabled. This would also cause the ESC (electronic stability control), ABS (antilock brake system) and BRAKE warning lights to turn on. Safety Risk: If the electronic brake assist is disabled, there would be a longer brake pedal travel. This could cause reduced braking and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to update the Electronic Brake Control Module with the correct software.

Recall Details
Issue: Certain brush chipper trailers were built with wheels that have an incorrect wheel nut contact area. As a result, the wheel nuts could loosen over time and fall off. The wheels can also develop possible cracks causing the tire to lose air pressure. If either of these conditions happen, a wheel could separate from the trailer. Safety Risk: A wheel separation could increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that detaches from the trailer could create a hazard for the towing vehicle occupants and other drivers and nearby people. Corrective Actions: For brush chippers manufactured between August 1, 2016, and February 7, 2020: Vermeer will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect and tighten the wheel nuts and tire air pressure on a daily basis or at a minimum every 150 miles (250 km) until the final repair kit is available. Vermeer will send you a second letter when the final repair kit is available. For some brush chipper configurations manufactured between 2007 and August 1, 2016: Vermeer will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions on how to check the trailer for defective wheels. If a defective wheel is found, Vermeer will provide you with instructions for how to inspect and tighten the wheel nuts and tire air pressure on a daily basis or at a minimum every 150 miles (250 km) until the final repair kit is available. Vermeer will send you a second letter when the final repair kit is available.

Recall Details
Issue: On certain trucks with a 3.5-L engine, there could be a problem with the engine block heater cable. The wrong cable may have been installed when your vehicle was repaired under a previous recall. The cable that was installed may not have enough heat protection and could be damaged by high engine temperatures. When plugged in, this could cause a short circuit to occur, resulting in overheated or melted wiring. It could also cause the block heater not to work, and/or it could cause a household circuit breaker to trip. For details of the previous recall, please see Transport Canada recall no. 2019-174 (Ford no. 19S11/19G01). Safety Risk: Overheated or melted wiring could create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: Do not use your block heater until the recall inspection and repairs are completed. Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the block heater and cable. Depending on the results of the inspection, the heater element and/or block heater cable will be replaced, as necessary. If the replacement parts are not available, the dealer will disable the engine block heater. Ford will send you another notice when the replacement parts are available, and will ask you to take your vehicle to a dealer to have them installed.

Issue: On certain trucks, there may be a problem with the software that controls the daytime running lights (DRLs). When the DRLs are on and the master lighting switch is rotated from the “Autolamp” position to the “headlamp on” position, the DRLs do not lower to parking light brightness. Canadian regulations require that the DRLs turn off when the headlights are turned on. Note: This only affects trucks equipped with LED headlights and the Autolamp feature (automatic headlights). Safety Risk: Lights that are too bright could cause glare for oncoming drivers. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to update the body control module (BCM) software.

Issue: On certain sewer cleaner trucks, there is a software problem that could allow use of the jetting mode while the transmission is not in park. As a result, the vehicle could move suddenly while working. Safety Risk: Sudden and unexpected movement of the truck could create a risk of injury or a crash. Corrective Actions: Vactor will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update vehicle software.

Issue: On certain trucks, the bolts used to attach the front and/or rear brake calipers could break under load. If this happens, the brake caliper could detach. As a result, brake performance could be reduced, and/or the caliper could interfere with wheel rotation. Safety Risk: Reduced brake performance can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to replace the brake caliper bolts.

Issue: On certain trucks equipped with air disc brakes, the brake caliper mounting bolts may not be properly tightened. This could cause the caliper bolts to loosen and result in reduced brake effectiveness. Safety Risk: Reduced brake effectiveness could cause an increase in stopping distance and create the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their truck to an authorized Daimler Trucks of North America Service Facility to inspect and replace the brake caliper bolts as necessary.

Issue: On certain trucks, the battery cables to the jump-start terminal may be too long. As a result, the cables could contact and chafe against the left-front suspension leaf spring. If this happens, a short circuit could occur and cause the positive cable to overheat or melt. Note: This recall only affects trucks with a left-hand under-hood battery jumper terminal. Safety Risk: An overheated or melted battery cable could create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer for an inspection of the jump-start terminal cables. If the cables are too long, they will be replaced.
