American Power Systems, Inc. (APS) (Davenport, Iowa) has been named Small Business Exporter of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Association (SBA) Region 7 Office.
As Small Business Exporter of the Year for the state of Iowa and Region 7, APS will represent Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska during National Small Business Week, slated May 4-8, 2020.
“We are so humbled by and grateful to the SBA for this opportunity,” said APS president Amy Lank. “My team and I are thrilled to represent Iowa and Region 7.”
APS is being recognized for significantly growing its exports over the last several years through partnerships with SBA and other local, state and federal organizations that support small businesses.
“The SBA is honored to recognize American Power Systems, Inc. as the 2020 Iowa Small Business Exporter of the Year, and we are very proud they were selected for the Region 7 award as well,” said Jayne Armstrong, district director of the SBA’s Iowa District Office. “APS is a great example of the tremendous impact exporting can have on Iowa small businesses.”
APS has received support to grow its exports from the SBA-funded Iowa State Trade Expansion Program, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s U.S. Commercial Service, the Iowa Procurement and Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), The Center for Industrial Research and Service at Iowa State University (CIRAS), Iowa Economic Development Authority, and the Quad Cities Manufacturing Innovation Hub at the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce.
“I strongly encourage other entrepreneurs to discover the wealth of low- and no-cost resources available to them,” said APS’s Lank. “As a small business owner, I was surprised and delighted to learn that grants were available to help with growth-related activities like attending international trade shows and optimizing our website – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.”
APS is one of many US businesses to be honored during National Small Business Week, a celebration that recognizes how small businesses contribute to our economy and society, according to the SBA. President Donald Trump is expected to announce the start of National Small Business Week in early May.
