Summit Body & Equipment (Portland, Oregon) introduced product improvements for 2020 as standard on relevant van body models.
Summit Dry Van and Cutaway, Aluminum
After years of research, and investment of significant resources in development, fixturing and testing, Summit introduces an aluminum wall construction methodology using 3M Very High Bond (VHB) adhesive that removes nearly all rivets from the front and side walls. This proven method has been used in aerospace, recreational vehicle construction and by van body manufacturers in various climates with success for many years. “Summit has a history of leading the industry with innovation,” said Ted Croce, President and CEO, Summit Body & Equipment. “We have been phasing out rivets in our aluminum vans with the use of adhesives for several years in advance of this final changeover. Not only will our aluminum product lines be more visually appealing, the consistency in our manufacturing process will advance quality assurance to a new level.”
Summit has added the final piece to their wiring harness system by implementing a sealed harness for oval LED taillights. The oval LED taillight harness will be used whenever taillights are installed in the rear corner posts. Combination LED stop/tail/turn/backup lights are installed via bullet connectors in this application, which connects in tandem to a harness for the LED marker lights. As noted by Ted Croce, “Product quality is the foundation of Summit’s success. The implementation of this final piece will ensure consistency in all production installations and simplify diagnostics and repair in the aftermarket. Reducing cost of ownership brings ongoing value to all customers.”
