AMD public notice

The Ambulance Manufacturers Division (AMD) is providing notice of its recommended revisions to AMD 023, Siren Performance Test – 2019 (AMD 023 Test) of the Standardized Test Methods (STM). The title of the AMD 023 Test, as revised, is annotated to include “rev. 1” to denote that the original version of the AMD 023 Test has been revised. (The Table of Contents page will also include that denotation.) Please refer to AMD 023 Test rev. 1 (Proposed) to review the revised test.

The AMD 023 Test was revised in response to the draft Change Notice 13 of the Federal Specification for the Star-of- Life Ambulance. The AMD 023 Test rev. 1 has been almost completely rewritten to convert it into a generic test procedure that is consistent with draft Change Notice 13 (and that may facilitate incorporation into other governing standards).

Please provide any comments to the proposed AMD 023 Test rev. 1 no later than Aug. 10, 2020.  All comments must be in writing using this Comment Form, be sent by email to info@ntea.com (delivery confirmation option selected), and identify “AMD 023” in the subject line of the email.

The AMD STM are a collection of test procedures to validate specific performance requirements of governing standards that incorporate the use of these test procedures by reference. Such governing standards currently include the Federal Specification for the Star-of- Life Ambulance, the National Fire Protection Association 1917 Standard for Automotive Ambulances, and the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services/Ground Vehicle Standard for Ambulances.

The AMD is comprised of manufacturers of ambulances, rescue and emergency vehicles, and related emergency apparatus and equipment. The organization works to expand and improve its market segment; acquire, preserve and disseminate information on the role of emergency vehicles; improve relationships with other industry segments; promote new product innovations; and assist in the development of industry safety standards and programs.
